Driving up North
We went for a drive up to Vermont yesterday. The two year old Honda Civic has been in the shop for about a week now, it has a broken engine mount. These things shouldn't be breaking in a new car, and it's just over warrantee. I am not buying another Honda ever again, I don't think. Good thing we have the Dadillac. So we rode in 10 year old American luxury style.
While we were there, we saw this sign:

It kind of scares me. Why would a truck ramp run away into the woods? And what is it doing there? Is it going to come after us? Luckily, there were no signs of it.
On the trip, I worked on test knitting a friend's pattern. It was a lot of fun to make. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post pictures or if it's secret so I won't say anything else about it for now.
We decided that Brattleboro, Vermont is very fun, and Bennington, Vermont is like a yuppie town that is trying very hard to be cool. Brattleboro has about as many coffee shops per square foot as Reykjavík. We did find a knitting shop in Bennington and Ingi was very sweet to wander around it with me. They didn't have anything too special, but they had a fun pattern for a lopapeysa-style sweater with dinosaurs on it, which we both thought would be a fun gift for our nephew. So I will probably start that in spring.
And Friday night I finished the first mitten. I sure hope my mitten friend doesn't have really big hands, she has "adult sized" hands which could be anything really. I have just under 2 weeks to do the second one. Maybe a week and a half. But I didn't want to knit this while we were driving around because I would have missed all the fun sights.

That's a beautiful mitten! The colors are lovely.
I'm sure your secret pal will love these mittens. They are beautiful.
Sounds like a nice trip.
What a beautiful pattern for mittens :-)
Vá, a beautiful. I agree with Sonja, your secret hand-pal will be lucky indeed to get a pair of these. The pattern is very similar to an estonian mitten pattern I bought last summer in Tallin.
Oh Rebecca! The mitten looks great!! Really! I´ve just realized that this book I´ve borrow from the library once.... I recognize the pattern. I´ve thought about knitting them too but didn´t have any suitable yarn at the time and then I forgot about it ;)
I'm glad you weren't chased by scary trucks from the woods. The ramps, though, are there, usually right by an incline, in case a truck's brakes fail. That way when they need a safe place to slow down, the truck can aim for the ramp instead of crashing into the other cars on the road.
